Claudie Larouche4 months agoEarlyON Playgroup Repository
As a parent, it was very complicated for me to figure out which EarlyON playgroup was happening on any given day. So I built a repository of all the EarlyON playgroups so that parents can simply visit the website and find out where the closest playgroups are happening when. You can filter by area, time of day, language and age range: https://claudielarouche.com/earlyon.html I used this as a datasource: https://ottawa.ca/en/family-and-social-services/childrens-services/earlyon

http://potsnap.ca/ https://www.facebook.com/PotSnap https://m.me/PotSnap https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/ottawa/ottawa-pothole-reporting-fill-app-1.5073348 PotSnap is an Facebook Messenger based, automated pothole reporting tool. Potsnap is very simple to use. It only asks a few simple questions and then reports your pothole anonymously to the City of Ottawa. PotSnap is faster then any other means and hopes to be the tool of choice for Canada’s Pothole hunters. PotSnap is also a proof of concept of a first party tool, for the Universal Reporting System. It demonstrates the use of an independent API to service Endpoints with service requests, using the Open 311 framework provided by the City of Ottawa. The URT expands on the base provided by the City and provides richer feature set that focuses on reducing and eliminating common pain points for governance. Matthew Darwinover 4 years agoUse OpenStreetMap base layer
The OpenStreetMap community in Ottawa is very active and works to quickly include updates from open.ottawa.ca into the base map in a timely fashion. The old CKAN based portal uses OSM base map. The new open.ottawa.ca should also use OSM base map. In the ESRI platform, the city can customize which OSM elements appear on the map using vector tiles. https://www.esri.com/arcgis-blog/products/arcgis-living-atlas/mapping/new-osm-vector-basemap/

1 comment0MBeaubienalmost 5 years agoParking near Fire Hydrants
It is very difficult to know even if you know how far to park from hydrants so people tend to park farther than they need to. Summer student marking where you put mousquito stuff in storm sewers could mark the hydrants as follows.. 1) paint an x on the pavement that shows clearly where one can't park. 2) have a box around it painted so drivers can see immediately this is not an available parking spot. .. not sure how datasets applies to this but this seems a nice initiative to add ideas!

The URL for construction projects is https://open.ottawa.ca/datasets/b2395e56baf148ee88eef9e20c43e12c_1/data. All those jumble of alpha-numeric characters are not intuitive. https://open.ottawa.ca/datasets/construction/data or similar would be much better

Ideas are reviewed on a quarterly basis by City departments. Approved ideas are adding to the department’s annual open data release plan. If a dataset cannot be released, the rationale will be posted on Engage Ottawa.

EnriqueRabout 5 years agoAdd more information to Tabular Transportation Collision Data (http://data.ottawa.ca/dataset/collisiondata2017)
Adding more detail collision information: Driver (Sex, Age, Condition), Sequence of Events and Offsets, Vehicle (Type, Maneuver, Condition, Damage), Initial Direction of Travel, Traffic Control Condition and Road (Pavement Marking, Alignment), this will allow to use the dataset to create more interesting analysis that could help to create a safer City of Ottawa. An interesting question to answer could be: "There is a type of manuever that is more prone to collisions in a specific road location?". Also, providing historical datasets (older than 2014) will help on the same target.
4 comments4Matthew Darwinabout 5 years agoOC Transpo Trip Cancellations
Make all the trip cancellation data available as an open data set. Currently you need to scrape it from http://www.octranspo.com/en/alerts as it occurs to keep history. Open Data should be updated in realtime and have historical information going back years.
3 comments9neil.mispelaarabout 2 years agoOttawa Property Tax Data
The idea here is for radical transparency around property taxes. Publish a data set for residential addresses and the property taxes paid for the address. Ideally the data set would also include ward information and then a breakdown of the property taxes, but to start the total property tax paid would be great. This data would allow researchers to identify the amounts that wards pay in property taxes and provide a comparative analysis against wards that generate tax dollars and wards that don’t.
1 comment0ScienceGuyMattabout 3 years agoCOVID-19 Hospitalization Rates by Age Group
An interesting data point / column to add to the .csv's available from OPH would be "Cumulative Cases in Hospital by 10-Year Age Groupings" and/or "Cumulative Cases in ICU by 10-Year Age Groupings". This would indicate which demographics are particularly vulnerable to COVID, which could help families in their risk management strategies.
1 comment1Patrick Bickerton9 months agoAutomated speed enforcement - time of day
The automated speed enforcement infraction dataset would be enhanced by providing a statistic on the time of day of infractions. This would improve our understanding of the interaction between congestion, speed and safety.
